Google Chrome OS arriving this fall and it won’t cost you a penny!

Google has said yesterday that it is planning to release its Chrome operating system, seen as Microsoft Windows’ upcoming greatest rival in fall 2010 completely free of charge. “We are working on bringing the device later this fall,” said Google vice president of product management Sundar Pichai at CompuTex Taipei, Asia’s biggest IT trade show.

Many of you will have seen or even been using Google’s Chrome browser, the Chrome OS will be very similar, concentrating strongly on simplicity, speed, and web apps. According to Google, more than 70 million users already use the Chrome browser which suggests its operating system will definitely receive a significant number of support. However, it is still uncertain whether manufacturers will in fact use Chrome OS as their default, pre-installed operating system in the future, a “norm” which has largely brought Microsoft Windows plenty of success over the years.
